A major push is underway to bring commercial air service to Moore County and local leaders say the payoff could be significant.

Moore County Economic Development leaders spearheading the effort said adding commercial flights at Moore County Airport could generate an estimated $16.5 million in economic impact for the region.

Airport leaders must raise $3 million by this summer to secure a deal with an airline. The money would go toward a Minimum Revenue Guarantee (MRG) a common incentive used nationwide to help launch new air service. So far, the community has raised more than $1.3 million, with contributions coming from local businesses and institutions.

“This is a community-driven effort,” said Natalie Hawkins with the Moore County Economic Development Partnership. “Strong local support is essential to demonstrating that Moore County is ready for commercial air service.”
