Moore County Airport: New Plan Would Bring Daily Service to Dulles

For many residents, catching a flight means starting the day with a long drive to Raleigh or Charlotte.

Local leaders are working to change that.

An effort is underway to restore commercial air service to Moore County Airport, beginning with a daily regional flight to Washington Dulles International Airport, a major hub offering connections across the United States and internationally. The service would allow travelers to begin their journeys close to home while maintaining access to destinations around the world.

Today, many trips start before sunrise with a drive to the airport, parking hassles and long security lines before passengers even reach their gate.

“Our residents are already doing a significant amount of air travel,” said Rick Cloutier, director of the Moore County Airport. “People here are flying in and out of our community every day. They just have to drive to or from somewhere else when making the trip.”
