The Moore County Airport is one step closer to securing a commercial airline, with the U.S. Golf Association taking the lead in contributing $150,000 toward a $3 million incentive funding goal.
The county’s airport authority, along with tourism officials and the Economic Development Partnership, have been working in earnest for the better part of a year to bring back commercial air service. The USGA donation marks the first official contribution from a major employer in the county.
“The USGA is proud to call Moore County home and as a committed community partner (we) believe it is important to engage in efforts that support long-term economic vitality and opportunities for the region,” the organization said in a statement to The Pilot.
“We are pleased to support Moore County Economic Development’s efforts to explore the potential return of commercial air service at Moore County Airport, and we look forward to working alongside local leaders, businesses and citizens as the community evaluates interest, feasibility and the potential benefits of restoring commercial air service for Moore County and the surrounding region.”
